U.S. flagship Hartford 2d rate 16 guns : journal of H.O. Dunn, U.S. Navy, from August 25, 1877 to May 18, 1878. 1877-1878.

This handwritten journal recorded brief summary of daily operations, weather, conditions, and location of vessel that was both sail and steam powered. Includes references to visual signaling, ordnance, small arms, broad swords, bayonet, exercises and single sticks. Describes the composition of a general court martial conducted aboard the ship. For the majority of the period covered by this journal, the vessel was located off Rio de Janeiro, and Montevideo, Uruguay.
